On the sands of a strange destination: Lina Wertmuller’s film Cala Luna, Cala Fuili, Cala Cartoe Length: 69 km Time required: 01h19
By retracing the steps of the actors who starred in "Travolti da un insolito destino nell’azzurro mare d’agosto" you can get to Cala Luna, the setting used to represent the Caribbean island where Mariangela Melato and Giancarlo Giannini are shipwrecked. From there you may continue as far as Cala Fuili and Cala Cartoe, where the remake starring Adriano Giannini and Madonna was filmed.
1st stop: Cala Luna A transparent sea, green Mediterranean vegetation, steep rocky cliffs with caves and underwater grottoes carved into them. In 1974 Cala Luna beach, 800 metres in length, was the setting for the unforgettable film by Lina Wertmuller "Travolti da un insolito destino nell’azzurro mare d’agosto", which starred Giancarlo Giannini and Mariangela Melato. Two years later scenes from an adventurous love story about a certain “Signor Robinson” were filmed there by the director Sergio Corrucci, who together with the actors Paolo Villaggio and Zeudi Araya staged a highly entertaining comedy.
2nd stop: Cala Fuili Cala Fuili beach is part of the gulf of Orosei. It is surfaced with white pebbles, surrounded by a forest of oleander and lentisk trees and lapped by transparent water. Given its untouched beauty, the beach was used not only for scenes in the film by Lina Wertmuller “Travolti da un insolito destino nell’azzurro mare d’agosto”, but also for the remake filmed in 2001, starring Madonna and Adriano Giannini and directed by Guy Richie.
3rd stop: Cala di Cartoe Like Cala Fuili, this splendid bay wedged between two high and imposing promontories was used in 2001 by Guy Ritchie, who directed the film “Travolti 2” with Madonna and Adriano Giannini. It was chosen for its natural beauty; the beach is covered in pale sand and opens up to the gorge of the Rio Cartoe, abounding in typical Mediterranean vegetation such oleander and lentisk trees.
